Ivey's Graduation Party

Miss Ivey, part of the Class of 2011, wanted a fun, funky, and colorful Luau theme for her graduation celebration instead of typical school colors. The main colors of the party were pink, lime green, turquoise, and orange. The main centerpiece of the party were the "puffs" hanging from the ceiling. We got this idea from Martha Stewart. It's very inexpensive and makes a big impact. We used three packs of paper so the total cost for all of the puffs, including the ones on the tables were about $8.00. They're also great for parties because you can choose any colors you want!

We also created two banners using the back of wax paper and craft paint! These looked super cute and also made a nice backdrop for pictures with the party girl!
For the food table, we created cocktail umbrella topiaries. All you need is a styrofoam ball, a styrofoam square, the cocktail umbrellas, a dowel rod, a terra cotta pot, craft paint, and a lei. Start by painting the pot with a color of your choosing, then insert the styrofoam square into the pot. Make sure it fits snuggly and you may want to use some hot glue to make sure it's secure. Insert the dowel rod and then place the styrofoam ball on top of the dowel rod. You can make these any height you want and with any size styrofoam ball. All that's left now is to place the umbrellas into the styrofoam ball! You can glue the lei on top of the pot if you would like, but we just "leied" ours on top! Haha! A little Hawaiian humor!
Also on the food table, we made a festive palm tree! This palm tree has a base made of styrofoam while the actual tree is made from a carpet tube and paper bags. You can go to a local carpet store and they will usually give you the tube. The leaves were fake leaves that you can find a local department store or dollar store. We then laid a piece of tan fabric over the styrofoam base to look like sand!
The food table looked gorgeous with our palm trees and umbrella topiaries. To go along with the Luau theme, barbecue was served with along with easy foods like chicken nuggets, chips and fruit.
Our fruit trays consisted of strawberries and watermelon. The tops of the pineapples in the middle of the trays along with the cute paper fruit picks made the trays super cute!
The drink table was decorated with a balloon topiary and a few cocktail napkins. Tea and pink lemonade were served.
Balloon topiaries are very simple to make! We use a wooden square base with a wooden dowel in the middle. This means that you can reuse them over and over. After the balloons are blown up, tie them together and slip them on top of the dowel. We then cut ribbons and wedge them in between the balloons. For this party, we also added some leis.
The guest tables were decorated with a floral centerpiece, paper place mats, puffs, napkins, and flower arrangements on the chairs.
The chair arrangements were made from magnolia leaves, dollar store flowers, and raffia. Magnolia leaves are great to use for arrangements because they last for a long time without water!
The centerpieces were made from all dollar store flowers! The bases were made from cardboard tubes. We wrapped rubber bands around the tube and then painted them to make it look like bamboo. The tube was then put into styrofoam. We then used a lei to cover the base.
Ivey's table consisted of pictures from throughout her life. The frames were black and silver for a look of consistency. There was also a frame with her cap and gown picture for people to sign.
At the entrance of the building, balloon topiaries were made just like the one made on the drink table. Instead of a base, the dowels were hammered into the ground.
The cake table was a small table beside the food table. We put the cake on a white stand to make it the centerpiece and then laid different color napkins around the edge of the table.
